Okanogan Fire Department

fire41@northcascades.net

The Okanogan Volunteer Fire Department, established December of 1909, responds to all fire, medical and rescue emergencies within the city limits of the City of Okanogan and Okanogan County Fire District #3. We also provide Mutual Aide to other fire districts, neighboring Communities, the Washington Department of Natural Resources, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Colville Tribes.

The Fire Department maintains a very dedicated Volunteer Firefighting force of 30 to 40 members and has a very innovative High School Program working closely with the Okanogan School District. On average, we have 3 to 4 students that are members of the Fire Department, per year, from this program. The students must follow the athletic code, maintain a 2.0 grade average and be 16 years of age or older. Firefighters spend nearly 300 hours making calls and attending 3 hour training sessions every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The Okanogan Volunteer Fire Department has a proud tradition of service to the people we serve. Our very proactive fire prevention education program, in our local elementary school, allows Firefighters to educate our youth on what to do in an emergency. Our community pride and service extends outside the department, as we attend many local events. These events include parades and special events for good causes, such as a local softball tournament for breast cancer survivors.

We also welcome people to our Wednesday night practices, where they can observe, learn, or even pick up an application to join.

In order to best provide electric and broadband service to the largest county in Washington, we have offices where you live and work in Oroville, Tonasket, Omak, Okanogan, Brewster and Twisp. Not only do we work in your areas, we live in your neighborhoods, have kids in your schools and attend your churches. We volunteer our time to raise funds for local organizations and work diligently to support local activities and businesses. Because the area in which we serve is also the area in which we live, doing the job timely and accurately is not simply good work practice, it is good people practice. It is the way we live.

We are committed to provide dependable, not-for-profit public utility services governed by, and for the benefit of, our customers in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

Our service area includes all of Okanogan County (5,315 square miles), which is the largest county in the State of Washington. In addition, two electric co-ops and one municipal system also provide service in the county. We serve approximately 20,000 customers composed mainly of residential, commercial and irrigation accounts. Our electric system consists of approximately 1,365 miles of overhead and 382 miles of underground distribution lines. We also own a 115 kV transmission system, which consists of approximately 104 miles of line and 16 major substations. In addition, we provide wholesale telecommunications service via a fiber-optic and wireless network. This system also serves the internal needs of the District for communications and SCADA.

We are a club of approximately 48 members that are not only fellows in Rotary, but very good friends within the Communities of Omak and Okanogan. We are a fun group that spends a lot of time at each meeting laughing. Fellowship is very important to us and we meet monthly with our families for potlucks, river floats, camp outs, swimming parties, movies and even a night out at local restaurants.

We are also very good at raising money for the many various projects that we support locally, district wide and through the Rotary Foundation. Our two main fund raisers are the Omak Stampede Beer Gardens and the Okanogan Omak Rotary Club Wine & Cheese Tasting and Benefit Auction. We usually raise from $30,000 to $40,000 annually at these two events.

We support the Rotary High School Student Exchange and academic and vocational scholarships for Okanogan and Omak High Schools. We are big supporters of Business Week for Okanogan and Omak High Schools. We are well known for our Free Kid's Fishing Derby and for hosting the Re Bound Exchange Student weekend. We also volunteer in a food drive to benefit the St. Nicholas Christmas baskets each year.

Please join us at a meeting. We would love to get to know you.

The scenic 9 hole course is bordered by rock strewn sage brush covered hills on two sides. Wildlife can be seen almost anytime from any of its elevated tee areas. The course has been rated by the National Golf Foundation, as one of the top 3 nine hole courses in the state of Washington.

Rental clubs and carts are available. We have a full service pro-shop and offer golf equipment from several major manufactures. A snack shop is located in the clubhouse.

A true golfing experience await all who visit the beautiful Okanogan Valley Golf Club.
